The men’s fencing team hopes to replicate last year’s perfect season at the Philadelphia Invitational on Jan. 10, while the women’s team looks to build on last year’s 14-5 season as well.
The teams will be under the leadership of new head coach Andy Ma. Ma has enormous shoes to fill, replacing Dave Micahnik, who captured more than 20 Ivy League championships between the Penn men’s and women’s teams over his 35-year tenure.
Last year, the men’s team went undefeated, capturing its first Ivy title since the 2000-2001 season.
Additionally, the men and the women combined to win the Intercollegiate Fencing Association six-weapon trophy last season. The title is awarded to the team that compiles the most wins across the three contested weapons.
