Last week, College senior Natalie Vernon was re-elected as the Student Activities Council chairwoman for the next term, which lasts until February 2010.

Vernon, who is also the president of Parliamentary Debate, is joined on the executive board by newly-elected Vice Chairman Sean Flanagan, a College junior and treasurer of mock trial, as well as re-elected Secretary Ali Huberlie, a College junior and tournament director of Penn for Youth Debate.

College junior Tanvi Gupta, Wharton junior Ayesha Chacko and College sophomore Vinay Rao were also elected to SAC’s executive committee.

Flanagan has been a member of SAC for nine months, Huberlie for a year and Vernon for two years. Huberlie said the group’s experience will allow SAC — the governing body responsible for funding student organizations — to bypass smaller issues and focus on broader projects.

“The challenge each year is to make sure that we’re making smart decisions and we’re encouraging groups to come in,” said Vernon, “but that also we’re sticking to our guidelines and making sure that we have enough funding.”

She added that the addition of Flanagan as vice chairman coupled with the highly-organized Huberlie as secretary will help SAC “operate in a much more organized, together fashion.”
