DART here for all students
To the Editor:
After reading last Friday’s article, “Treating eating disorders at Penn,”(10/23/2009) we were surprised to read, “There is no group for students concerned that their roommate makes herself throw up in the bathroom.” We were disappointed that students aren’t aware of the resources available for helping their peers. Well, we are happy to tell you that there is such a group: The Drug and Alcohol Resource Team, otherwise known as DART.
We hold workshops throughout the school year, including the Say Something presentations that are given to members of all student groups. These presentations help students recognize signs that indicate high-risk behaviors, including the aforementioned eating disorders.
The article suggests that there are no such groups available to help, but we at DART are here for all Penn students. We acknowledge that our workshops do not reach the entire student body, so we welcome any requests for peer assistance or guidance, and are more than willing to provide resources for any Greek organization, College House or other interested student groups or individuals. You can contact us at dartupenn@gmail.com for more information.
