The streak is finally over for Dartmouth.

For the first time in 18 games, the Big Green won a football game, beating Columbia by a hefty 28-6 margin. And it was great timing. A loss would’ve given the team the longest current losing streak in the nation as the former leader, Indiana State, also won Saturday.

“The sense of relief for this team is huge, because there is no doubt that as the streak got to 15, 16, 17, it weighed on everyone,” Dartmouth coach Buddy Teevens said after the game. “But seeing the school take such great pride in the team and victory by rushing the field was the best thing to see.”

The hero of the game without a doubt was sophomore running back Nick Schwieger, who set a school record with 242 rushing yards. He broke the previous record by 13 yards.

“It felt great to break some runs, something we need to do for the rest of the year,” Schwieger said.

The Big Green (1-5, 1-2) were in control from the start, scoring on the first possession and never looking back. They led 21-0 before the Lions (2-4, 1-2) scored their lone touchdown of the game.

Brown 34 Cornell 14

Trailing 14-7 to Cornell with just under six minutes left in the third quarter, Brown needed a spark if it wanted to keep its Ivy title hopes alive.

The Bears didn’t just get one spark. They got two.

With 5:55 left in the quarter, receiver Buddy Farnham caught a 56-yard yard touchdown pass to tie the game. Then, on Cornell’s first play from scrimmage, defensive lineman Jimmy Develin intercepted the ball, returning it all the way to the six-yard line. That set up a Brown score with 5:40 left.

Those two plays in a 15-second span gave the Bears all the momentum they needed, as they cruised to a 34-14 win in Ithaca, N.Y.

“Develin’s play was a big momentum swing for our team,” Bears coach Phil Estes told Brown Athletics. “We had lots of frustration up to that point and you could see the lift it gave the entire sideline.”

With the victory — the team’s first on the road — Brown (4-2, 2-1) has now won four-straight games leading up to a big showdown with co-Ivy League leader Penn in Providence, R.I., Saturday.

The Cornell offense was largely ineffective throughout, as it ran for just 39 net rushing yards. Both of the touchdowns scored by the Big Red (2-4, 1-2) came on turnovers (a 26-yard fumble return and a 24-yard interception return).

Harvard 37 Princeton 3

With Dartmouth’s win over Columbia, there’s only one team left in the Ancient Eight who’s yet to beat a conference foe: Princeton.

Playing Harvard in Boston, the Tigers were completely dominated by the co-Ivy leader, as they managed just a single field goal in a 37-3 defeat. They’re now 0-3 in the conference and just 1-5 overall.

Harvard (4-2, 3-0) has beaten the Tigers in 12 of the last 14 years, including three straight. This time the Crimson used an impressive rushing attack to wear down the Tigers, as nine players rushed for a combined 267 yards. Though no player eclipsed the 100-yard plateau, the team averaged 5.0 yards per carry.

Princeton, meanwhile, gained just 38 net rushing yards on 25 carries (1.5 yards per carry). The passing game fared slightly better as quarterbacks Tommy Wormham and Drew Ellis combined for 119 passing yards.

The Crimson started the scoring with a 77-yard passing touchdown on their first drive.
