Angela Poe has wanted to help people since a young age, and she has returned to her native Philippines to do just that.
As a result, College sophomore Becca Elman will take over for Poe, a would-be College sophomore, representing the School of Arts and Sciences on the Undergraduate Assembly.
UA Executive Vice Chairman for External Affairs and College junior Matt Amalfitano praised Poe for her passion.
"You meet a lot of kids who are really passionate," he said, "but I don't think I've ever met anyone who combined that passion with a work ethic."
For UA Chairman and College junior Alec Webley, Poe's resignation is bittersweet.
While he said he is "disappointed and unhappy that [Poe] decided to leave," Webley thinks that Elman, Poe's replacement, will be an excellent UA member.
According to Amalfitano, the differences between the two girls will stem in part from their styles of leadership.
"[Elman] brings a realism to the UA," said Amalfitano. "She's very tangible-change oriented." This trait, he said, marks a difference from Poe's leadership style.
Elman comes to the UA after helping to orchestrate Anderson Cooper's visit last fall, hosted by the Social Planning and Events Connaissance Committee.
In addition to her involvement with SPEC, Elman also worked on initiatives such as More Than Pennies, which worked to deliver food from the dining halls to the homeless.
