On Friday night, more than 7,000 Penn students sang and danced along to Akon and Guster in Franklin Field. While most students were just happy to enjoy two great performances, the concert improved on past years' experiences because of the smoothness with which SPEC and SPEC Concerts pulled off the show.
After doing the right thing and moving the Fling concert from the Perelman Quadrangle to Franklin Field last year because of increasing ticket demand, SPEC ran into problems at last year's Gym Class Heroes/Ludacris concert because of the overwhelming number of concertgoers. Many students had trouble entering in a timely fashion because only a few entrances to the stadium were opened.
This year, however, SPEC wisely rectified this by opening more doors. Similarly, while in the past students have had to wait quite a while between sets, the time lapse between the two acts was much quicker. With these small but noted behind-the-scenes efforts, the Akon and Guster concert turned into a highlight of Spring Fling weekend.
