Originally scheduled to open in early April, Capogiro Gelato is now slated to open in the latter part of the month, according to owner John Reitano.
The reason, he wrote in an e-mail, is that it is tough for a "family-owned small business . to grow in a challenging economic environment."
As of now, construction on the space in the Radian is almost complete.
According to Reitano, Capogiro is waiting on the delivery of Italian refrigeration equipment before it can open to the public.
This announcement also comes after protests from union workers took place outside Capogiro's construction on the 3900 block of Walnut Street several weeks ago - accompanied by a giant inflatable rodent.
Yet, Capogiro does not believe it is at fault.
"We believe we have complied with all regulations in our recent expansion and are disappointed that third parties are threatening to disrupt our business," Reitano wrote.
Freshman Lauren Meepos said she is excited about the upcoming ice cream.
As a Los Angeles native, she said she is looking forward to "more ice cream options" on campus that remind her of her home.
