G. Edward DeSeve, senior lecturer at Penn's Fels School of Government, will manage the distribution of the $787 billion in federal stimulus funds in a new high-level advisory role.
The White House announced his appointment yesterday as senior advisor to the Office of Management and Budget for Recovery Act Implementation, special advisor to President Barack Obama and assistant to Vice President Joe Biden.
"Edward will support the Vice President in his leadership on Recovery Act implementation," the announcement said.
DeSeve served as the head of the Office of Management and Budget during the Clinton administration and also as the chief financial officer in the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Affairs.
He has advised on the municipal finances of Philadelphia and established a private economics consulting firm.
DeSeve received his masters in government administration from Wharton.
He teaches a course in public management at Fels available to graduate and executive students and is also a senior fellow at the James MacGregor Burns Academy of Leadership at the University of Maryland.
