According to Hillel director Jeremy Brochin, Penn Hillel received a $1 million donation to run and revamp Hillel, as well as to support students.
Anna Dubin, wife of the late Irwin Dubin, made the contribution in memory of her husband, a Penn alumnus. The donation will be paid over the course of several years.
Brochin wrote in an e-mail that the donation will fund three goals - a modern audio/visual system in the Steinhardt Hall Auditorium, long-term operating costs of Steinhardt Hall and a scholarship fund.
"Hillel is constantly working with Penn parents and alumni to find ways for them to enhance the quality of Jewish life at Penn," Brochin said.
In light of the donation, Hillel changed the name of the Steinhardt Hall Auditorium to the Anna Shotel Dubin and Irwin Dubin Auditorium and plans to launch an endowment fund, according to Hillel President and College senior Deena Greenberg.
"It's truly inspiring to see such generous gestures being made, especially given current economic conditions," Greenberg said. "Such contributions allow Hillel to strengthen its role as the center for Jewish life on campus."
