Congratulations to Drexel for taking up arms.
With crime on everyone's minds, it comes as no surprise that our neighbors to the northeast have new plans to ensure the continued safety of students.
Drexel recently announced its intent to develop a campus police department over the course of the next year.
At Penn, the visible presence of police officers encourages a feeling of security among students as they travel across campus and some distance away in each direction.
Now more West Philly residents can enjoy concentrated police protection in all directions.
Boasting 28 full officers, the new force at Drexel should aid in guaranteeing the safety of all students who find themselves east of 33rd Street for school, work, or play.
Hopefully, the Penn Police and their Drexel counterparts can work together to identify problem zones and address concerns faced by both departments.
Students from all over the world come to Philadelphia to get an education.
And thanks to ever-evolving strategies by local universities, they will continue to do so in a relatively secure environment.
