This past week I had the pleasure of hosting the DP's first Open Forum of the semester. What began as a simple experiment last year has blossomed into a great way for you to share your thoughts and give us feedback.

As usual, you had a lot on your mind. The hot topic of the day was our coverage of the sudden departure of former Dean of Admissions Lee Stetson.

As many of you noticed, the DP has been running stories about Dean Stetson on an almost daily basis. Students overwhelmingly felt that it was not only our responsibility, but also our duty to pursue this story until we're able to shine some more light on this mystery.

This support from our readers only serves to bolster our efforts. Although this story has been challenging to cover due to its sensitive nature, we have maintained our focus in spite of a lack of cooperation from key officials. We'll be continuing our coverage of Dean Stetson, but that's not the only news to watch out in the coming weeks.

Immediately after fall break, we will launch our coverage of Penn's historic expansion toward the Schuylkill. Over Homecoming weekend, President Gutmann will be kicking off Penn's long-awaited capital campaign as well as her plans for the postal lands. And if you won't be able to make it, don't worry - the DP will be there to fill you in.

Although the vision for eastward expansion will take decades to realize, we will be working hard to make it relevant for the University community today. In addition to extensive news coverage, we'll also be featuring guest columns from both administrators and student leaders, inviting them to share their thoughts on how the expansion will shape the future of Penn's campus.

But we'd also like to hear from you. If you want to weigh in on eastward expansion, feel free to submit guest columns or letters to the editor so that you can share your thoughts with the rest of the University community.

Eastward expansion is a milestone in Penn's history. And with no shortage of excitement on campus, it promises to be quite a year. As Penn's paper of record, we plan to be there every step of the way.
