Physicians at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania will offer complimentary screenings for vascular conditions such as peripheral artery disease and abdominal aortic aneurysms today in the Bodek Lounge of Houston Hall.
Peripheral artery disease, or P.A.D., typically involves poor circulation in a person's legs. Untreated P.A.D. can double a person's risk of having a heart attack or stroke.
Abdominal aortic aneurysms, or AAA, occur when a person's aorta, the largest artery in the body, swells and bursts, which can lead to severe internal bleeding.
People with higher risk for either condition include those who are 50 years or older, those who have a history of smoking and those with diabetes.
Screenings will be offered from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Due to limited space, people interested in being screened are urged to make an appointment by calling 215-615-4135.
Those who registered in advance will also receive screenings to determine their risk for having a stroke.
