A fire started on the roof of the West Tower of the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia yesterday, but it was quickly extinguished and no injuries or damages were reported.
At 1:30 p.m., a PennComm dispatcher saw via a surveillance camera that a fire had ignited on the roof and called the Philadelphia Fire Department, according to Gene Janda, Division of Public Safety Deputy Chief of Fire and Emergency Services.
The fire could not be put out by hospital staff, but the PFD soon arrived and extinguished the fire at about 2:00 p.m.
No smoke entered the hospital, and officials are still determining whether water damage occurred, according to a CHOP press release.
There was also no disruption to patient care, though helicopters were diverted from CHOP and from the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
Roofing materials and insulation from a construction crew were involved in the fire. The exact cause is still under investigation.
