University council meeting in Houston Hall discussing future construction and UPenn Alert program.

University President Amy Gutmann, Provost Ron Daniels, faculty and student leaders met yesterday afternoon in Bodek Lounge for the year's second meeting of the University Council.

The UC discussed issues relating to Penn's recently announced $3.5 billion capital campaign, PennConnects and the PennAlert security-notification system.

Major presentations include:

n Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations John Zeller gave a presentation on "Making History" - Penn's slogan for the capital campaign.

In his presentation, Zeller talked about the goals of the campaign and how the University will attempt to reach them.

n Executive Vice President Craig Carnaroli gave an update on PennConnects, a campus development master plan that includes the construction of the new Annenberg Public Policy Center and the School of Medicine's new Center for Advanced Medicine. He said that all projects planned in phase one are in full swing.

Future projects in the consultant selection phase are building a College House on Hill Field, a new School of Arts and Sciences research center and creating Penn Park.

n Vice President of Public Safety Maureen Rush talked about emergency preparedness at Penn.

Rush added that those present at the meeting could help improve PennAlert by persuading members of the Penn community to sign up for the emergency notification system and to register their cell-phone numbers.

No issues were raised in the open forum.
