The mother of a female student was robbed of her purse by three juveniles last Friday near the intersection of 36th Street and Locust Walk, Division of Public Safety officials said.
The mother, her husband and the student were sitting on a bench on Locust Walk at about 8:55 p.m. when they were approached by the three juveniles - two males and one female.
One of the suspects asked the father for the time and then grabbed the mother's purse, pushing her to the ground.
The mother was transported to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and treated for minor injuries to the right side of her head, hip and knee. She has since been released.
The two male suspects fled eastbound toward 36th Street, and the female suspect fled westbound toward 37th Street.
A girl matching the female juvenile's description was spotted walking eastbound on the 3400 block of Sansom Street. She was stopped by Penn Police, positively identified and charged with robbery and other related offenses.
The purse was recovered with nothing missing.
One of the other two suspects was apprehended at about 12:15 a.m. when he entered the Penn Police headquarters, located at 4040 Chestnut St., looking for his sister, the juvenile arrested earlier.
That suspect was also positively identified and charged with robbery and related offenses.
Police could not reveal the names of the suspects due to their juvenile status. The male suspect is 15, and the female suspect is 14.
The third suspect has yet to be arrested.
Philadelphia Police's Southwest Detectives are leading the investigation.
In an unrelated incident on April 30, Andrew Lloyd of the 6800 block of N. Woodland St. allegedly assaulted a male victim and tried to take his money near the intersection of 40th and Market streets.
The complainant, 56 and unaffiliated with the University, was selling newspapers at about 6:25 a.m. when Lloyd allegedly hit him with a milk crate and attempted to rob him.
Lloyd allegedly attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended by Penn Police and charged with robbery and related offenses.
The victim suffered a minor bump to the head but was not hospitalized.
