The School of Veterinary Medicine announced on Monday that it is launching a new award.

The Penn Vet World Leadership in Animal Health Award "has been designed to recognize innovation, creativity and leadership in the veterinary profession anywhere in the world," according to a press release.

The award will be presented to a veterinarian who has "dramatically changed the practice and image of the profession and substantially influenced the lives and careers of others."

The recipient will also receive $100,000 to do what he or she will.

Joan Hendricks, Dean of the Vet School, said the school was "honored . to make such a bold statement in support of our profession."

"This is trutly a milestone in global veterinary medicine, one that will encourage and reward ambitious thinking and life-changing accomplishment in our profession, while emphaszing the importance of veterinary medicine to society," she added.

Two other awards, the Penn Vet Student Inspiration Awards, both of which also come with $100,000 prizes, are being concurrently launched.

Only Penn Vet students currently enrolled will be eligible for the award.

Recipients will be chosen by the World Awards committee, chaired by Dean Emeritus Alan M. Kelly.

All three awards were made possible by a gift from the Hill Family Foundation.
