The University is now home to a center dedicated to the early detection and cure of ovarian cancer.
The announcement of this facility, officially known as The Center for Research on Early Detection and Cure of Ovarian Center, was made on Monday.
It will be directed by George Coukos, an internationally renowned gynecologic oncologist and research scientist.
Coukos will focus on researching better detection tools and treatment therapies, as well as bettering the overall condition of women with ovarian cancer.
"This new Center will provide an infrastructure for ovarian cancer research and treatment and will serve as a catalyst to unite existing talent at Penn, recruit new investigators and promote interdisciplinary collaboration in the field of ovarian cancer," Deborah Driscoll, chairwoman of the University's Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, said in a press statement.
The Center was launched by the Abramson Cancer Center of the University of Pennsylvania in conjunction with the University of Pennsylvania Health System and School of Medicine.
