This week, Delaware Attorney General spokeswoman Janice Fitzsimons announced that Irina Malinovskaya will be retried a second time for the murder of Irina Zlotnikov.
The last two times Malinovskaya was tried, the case ended in a hung jury.
On October 16, The Daily Pennsylvanian Opinion Board said that two times was enough, and that there was little reason why trying her a third time would yield different results.
By the time Malinovskaya is tried again, in April, she will have been in jail for nearly 30 months. This third trial is a waste of Delaware's resources and time, especially since the DP reported that prosecutors could not confirm whether they had any new evidence.
This cannot go on forever. Unless there is new evidence that prosecutors are convinced would lead to a new outcome, it's time to let go.
