Yesterday, the DP ran an editorial about Amy Gutmann being named on Harvard's list of potential candidates for its presidency.
The editorial argued that Gutmann - if she doesn't want the job - should simply come out and say so. Yet, it also implied that Gutmann has never commented on the issue, and that just isn't true.
When questioned about her interest in the top job of her alma mater, Gutmann has always stated that she loves Penn and has no plans to leave.
Our editorial should have better explained our stance: That we wanted Gutmann to go a small step further and clearly say not just that she likes Penn, but that she isn't interested in the Harvard job.
And yesterday, Gutmann made it clear, at the Board of Trustees' meeting, once and for all: The only job she has interest in is being president of Penn.
