Penn researchers have completed research on a vaccine that may lead to the prevention of certain types of tumors, specifically breast tumors, according to Reuters.
The research was presented this weekend at a meeting hosted by the American Association for Cancer Research.
The vaccine prevents the over-expression of a growth receptor associated with rapid tumor growth in several types of cancers.
Researchers found that 12 women who received the vaccine during normal cancer treatments showed significant reductions in expression of the hormone.
Penn Medicine's Brian Czerniecki led the research team. Czerniecki is also the recipient of the American Cancer Society, Clinical Career Development Award and the Susan D. Koman Award for Breast Cancer Research.
