Administrators have been promising for months that a better solution for undergraduate e-mail is in the pipeline.
But here we are, in mid-November, and Penn has yet to decide whether to ink a deal with Google or Microsoft. Such a major decision certainly requires time, and lots of it, but administrators themselves promised to have a company selected by this time.
While administrators wait, students are left with an increasingly outdated e-mail system and far too many "exceeded quota" messages. Google's Apps for Education service is now open to any university, and signing up for any such service will soon no longer be ahead of the times - it will simply be keeping up with everyone else.
Administrators promised students a better e-mail system, and we'd like to see them deliver us a better inbox.
