Crime headlines have been smattered across newspapers lately.
Eight people have now been attacked by an assailant carrying a screwdriver, as close to campus as the intersection of 40th and Pine streets. Penn's police department is deploying increased security personnel to the affected areas, but there's only so much that police can do.
Students must be doing everything they can to keep themselves safe, too.
As applicants, Penn students knew they were signing on to live in a large, sometimes dangerous city. Walking alone very late at night in less-trafficked areas is something no student should be doing anywhere, but especially college students in an urban setting like Philadelphia.
So with final exams approaching (and students going to or coming from study groups at all hours), make sure to utilize 898-WALK, 898-RIDE and stay vigilant.
We don't need any more headlines.
