Three School of Medicine professors were honored on Tuesday when they were named to the national Institute of Medicine.
The institute is part of the National Academy of Sciences, and is a non-profit, non-governmental organization that analyzes and consults on issues related to medicine and health.
Professors Lance Becker, Francisco Gonzalez-Scarano and Mitchell Lazar join 55 other Penn-affiliated members of the Institute, which has over 1,500 total members.
Becker is a professor of Emergency Medicine. Gonzalez-Scarano is co-Director of the Penn Center for AIDS Research and co-Director of Penn's Comprehensive Neuroscience Center
Lazar is chief of the division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at Penn.
"Penn is privileged and proud that three of our most distinguished and capable physician-scientists have been named," Arthur Rubenstein, executive vice president of the Health System and Med School dean, said in a statement.
