Spring Fling organizers expect both guest passes and concert tickets to sell out before the festivities begin on Friday.

Fling concert headliner Of a Revolution has has brought a dramatic rise in sales over last year, when Sonic Youth played, and guest pass sales have not been hindered by a $10 price hike, planners said.

As of yesterday, about 2,250 tickets have been sold for the show Friday night at Wynn Commons, according to Matt Mizrahi, co-chairman of Social Planning and Events Committee Concerts.

The capacity for the venue is just under 2,500 people.

Last year's Fling concert sold about 400 tickets and featured Citizen Cope and Cat Power as well as Sonic Youth.

"We are pretty ecstatic since we have put tons of work in this year and really hoped to do a good job. ... The students have responded with ticket sales," Mizrahi said. "I'm really excited to see a packed crowd on Friday," he said.

College senior Jake Chanin, SPEC Spring Fling's co-director, said that the group had sold about 800 passes as of Monday afternoon, ahead of last year's figure at the same point. Last year, about 1,900 passes were sold.

SPEC is offering up to 2,000 guest passes, the same as last year, and they are each being sold for $20. The guest pass price was raised from last year's $10 level. Organizers say the increase is due to security costs. Two years ago, the price was $5.

"People who are buying [passes] are asking why the price is more, but once we explain our reasoning they seem to understand," Chanin said. "Everyone is being really great about it."

Passes are on sale through tomorrow at 5 p.m. Chanin said that SPEC isn't allowed to sell guest passes on the days of Fling.

"Usually we get a mad rush on Thursday and the line is huge," he added.

"We will probably sell out, and we encourage everyone to get their passes before Thursday," Chanin said, saying that the line will be cut off after 5 p.m.

Tickets for the Fling concert on Friday night featuring OAR and Scratch Track are available on Locust Walk for $25 and can be purchased on the day of the show for $30. Mizrahi expects that even if the show does sell out, some tickets will still be available on Friday.

Engineering junior John Paulett said he bought his ticket the first week they were on sale for $20 to avoid the price increase.

"I didn't feel like paying $30 for something I could get for $20," Paulett said.
