To the Editor:
I would like to comment on your editorial ("One small step for Penn," DP, 3/28/06) concerning the new financial-aid policy toward students with family incomes less than $50,000.
Your editorial implied that, because the change will only affect 400 students, it is only a small step in the right direction. On the contrary -- this is a step that makes a huge difference in the lives of those 400 students.
Furthermore, your editorialist tries to deflect responsibility by saying that increasing financial aid will require a "a firm commitment from the University." If your readers are committed to increasing financial aid at Penn, they will put their money where their mouths are.
Do what George Weiss did: After you make your fortune, remember to donate to your alma mater and remember to earmark it for financial aid.
