Oscar-winning actress Jodie Foster was chosen to deliver the University's 250th commencement address on May 15, University officials announced yesterday.

Foster "is an artist with a vision who has always used her art to explore weighty social themes," Penn President Amy Gutmann said.

Foster, a Yale University graduate and the winner of two Academy Awards - including Best Actress for her performance in Silence of the Lambs - will receive an honorary Doctor of Arts degree at the ceremony.
