To the Editor:
Upon reading Matt Meltzer's wrestling article on Monday ("All in the Family," DP, 1/23/06) I was shocked by the tastelessness of something I read.
Meltzer comments that "Thanks to the United States' decision to drop the [atomic] bomb [on Japan], Hitschler never found his way over to Japan."
While I am not necessarily a stickler for political correctness and I am sure Matt's comments were not malicious in intent, I was greatly offended by them.
Brutally murdering hundreds and thousands of innocent Japanese men, women, and children should have been prosecuted as a war crime, and never should be celebrated or thanked for in any context.
Ethno-centric comments like these constantly remind me why America is hated by most of the world today.
I think a formal apology for these comments by The Daily Pennsylvanian is both appropriate and necessary.
