To the Editor:
As the father of the exuberant redhead in your sports page photograph, ("These Guys Are Crazy," DP 9/13/05) I applaud the DP's venturing to Delaware. I have attended one Delaware game in my son's tenure (an overtime win against Maine) and found it reminiscent of the times my grandfather (Princeton, 1919) took me to Palmer Stadium to see Rutgers or Dartmouth play the Tigers before what appeared to be large (22,000 or more) crowds.
As an interested Quaker follower I can only surmise that excitement in football might be piqued by the possibility of a playoff berth in the Division I-AA championship. I believe that recent Penn teams would have represented the school and themselves very well.
Perhaps the Ivy League should consider removing the ban that prohibits the football team from particpating in the NCAA Championship. After all, Ivy League championship basketball teams are permitted to struggle mightily year after year against higher seeds. Maybe the I-AA Championship brings Ivy athletics back to where it belongs.
Perhaps Penn should begin an I-95 series with the Blue Hens. I am sure that there are a few "crazy guys" in West Philadelphia up to the task.
