To the Editor:
As Conor O'Callaghan wrote in his column on Friday ("Spring Fling belongs in the Quad," The Daily Pennsylvanian, 1/14/2005), the fate of Spring Fling is uncertain. We are extremely happy that Fling will, in fact, remain in the Quad for another year. However, as the event's directors, we are aware that while the decision has been made for this year, the future of Spring Fling is subject to change.
The burden of keeping Spring Fling in the Quad falls not only on those who plan the event, but also on those who attend it. We know that Spring Fling is Penn's largest social event; we ask you, the student body, to act responsibly. Now, more than ever, it is critical to party safely, not only in the interest of your personal health, but in the interest of Fling.
We have fought to preserve the tradition of Fling that Penn holds so dear. We continue our efforts to make this year's Fling memorable. It is up to all of us, as students, to show the administration that we want Fling to stay in the Quad and that we are all willing to modify our behavior to achieve this goal.
This year, we plan on introducing several initiatives to change the culture that surrounds Fling. Your support in these endeavors is integral in order to make a substantial difference. The eyes of the administration rest on us -- our behavior will serve to define Fling for years to come.
