School of Arts and Sciences Dean Rebecca Bushnell announced today that math professor Dennis DeTurck will replace her as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences starting Jan. 1. Bushnell will be vacating the post to become dean of the School of Arts and Sciences.
"Dennis has been a forceful advocate for curricular innovation in a wide range of contexts," Bushnell wrote in a campus-wide e-mail. "He has led major reforms in introductory calculus, initiated a residence-based mathematics advising program for undergraduates, and has played an active role in several campus efforts to promote the use of technology to enhance instruction."
DeTurck will be responsible for Penn's undergraduate College of Arts and Sciences. As the SAS Dean, Bushnell presides over the largest of Penn's 12 schools, including both graduate and undergraduate programs.
Bushnell held the position of College dean for only one year before being promoted in November.
