Accompanied by sunny skies, "Some Fling for Everyone" met with rave reviews this weekend.
Spring Fling was celebrated throughout campus with events organized by the Social Planning and Events Committee, including a concert Friday night at Franklin Field featuring Wyclef Jean, Reel Big Fish and The Working Title, as well as performances, food and games in the Quadrangle and a carnival in Wynn Commons.
This year's concert allowed for expanded floor access, and organizers said they were pleased with the turnout for the show.
"The concert went really well. We were really lucky with the weather. There was a lot of positive feedback," said College junior and SPEC Concerts Co-Director Ashley Wolff.
"People seemed to really like the party atmosphere of the performers," and although the field was not sold out, "it was well populated. It was a good, healthy showing, and we didn't feel like it was a bust or anything," she added.
SPEC members said that the official numbers for how many people attended the concert would not be released until today.
College freshman Katherine Cybulski said she had been looking forward to attending Fling events.
"I've heard that [Fling's] a lot of fun, and I've been looking forward to being able to go out. It's pretty much what I've expected. ... The bands are cool, and you've gotta try the fried Oreos," Cybulski said.
Engineering sophomore Edwin Villanueva attended Fling events last year and said this year's events and atmosphere surpassed those of last year's Fling.
"I think it's as good, if not better, than last year," he said, adding that he was looking forward to both the organized events as well as hanging out in the Quadrangle.
Other students similarly praised the weekend.
"I like how student performing groups come out. If you didn't know them specifically, you probably wouldn't go to their show, but at Fling you can see [them] even if you're just walking around the Quad," College sophomore Modessa Jacobs said.
"I got to the Quad after Off the Beat performed, which I was really looking forward to, but I got to see some other good bands," she added.
Wharton senior and SPEC Concerts Co-Director Erica Lock echoed Wolff's sentiments about the success of Fling, citing the warm weather as a large factor.
Maybe it is "because I'm a senior, but I think this is the best Fling that I've had. ... We had two great days of sun," Lock said. "I think, on the whole, it went really well. All the events were really successful. I've heard nothing but good feedback about the concert."
