Saturday Night Live cast member Horatio Sanz is set to take part in a night of laughs on the Penn campus on Monday, March 22.

The Underground Comedy Tour will be held in the Annenberg Center and will feature an array of sketch, improvisational and stand-up comedy.

The event is being presented by Simply Chaos, the Social Planning and Events Committee and T Change.

"I think this will really appeal to students," SPEC Vice President Keri Vislocky said. "I think students would love a break like this from their busy schedules -- it's a great event to take their minds off school ... and who doesn't love comedy?"

Sanz will be accompanied by fellow sketch comedians from the Upright Citizens Brigade, a comedy troupe that Sanz helped to found. Members of the group have performed in such shows as VH1's Best Week Ever and I Love the 70s and Comedy Central's Straight Plan for the Gay Man.

The host for the night will be Mike Birbiglia, a stand-up comedian who has been on such shows as the Late Show with David Letterman.

Alongside the comedic acts will be featured musical guest Julian Velard. The 24-year-old musician will be accompanied by his six-piece jazz ensemble.

Founder of Simply Chaos Avi Gilbert is responsible for a significant amount of the organizing and for bringing the event to campus.

"I want the Penn community to appreciate what goes on at Penn," Gilbert said. "It's about making a really great event for Penn's campus to come together and appreciate comedy, and that's one great thing."

Members of Simply Chaos are planning to add their own Penn-flavored element to the event, showing a video of students on Locust Walk being interviewed about Penn life, Sanz and comedy in general.

Group members plan to stand on the walk throughout the week to collect video footage and promote the event.

College sophomore Meg Panzer, though initially unaware of the event, was excited to learn about it.

"I hadn't heard of the event, but I've definitely heard of Horatio Sanz," she said. "It will probably be hysterical. I'll definitely try to get tickets. It sounds like it would be a fun thing to do with friends."

Next Monday's show will mark the launch of a complete comedy college tour for the Upright Citizens Brigade.
