Late-night Greek cuisine is coming soon to a restaurant near you.

According to Tony Sorrentino, the University's real estate and facilities spokesman, the Greek Lady has signed a lease for the former Simsum site, located at 222 S. 40th St.

Greek Lady owner Dimitrios Dimopoulos confirmed that the lease with the University was signed, saying that "depending on permits and equipment, we expect to be open in the beginning of April."

He added that construction was moving along as scheduled, although the project was quite complex.

"We're in the middle of gutting the place out, tear[ing] the floors down, re-doing the bathrooms in another location," Dimopoulos said. "We have our work cut out for us."

And when the new restaurant does open, patrons can expect something a little different from the current offerings at the Greek Lady's two campus food trucks.

The new menu, according to Dimopoulos, will expand to offer an array of Greek and Mediterranean specialties, including the bougatsa, a breakfast delicacy that he said "goes great with a cup of espresso."

In addition, customers can look forward to heavier fare being served at the new restaurant, as the larger location will enable the Greek Lady to serve full entrees.

"We're going to have entrees, which will also be available during lunch and dinner," Dimopoulos said. "We're going to have five to six entrees every day."

In addition to the new menu, Dimopoulos is also excited about the quality of the food at the new location.

"We expect our food to taste a lot better being that we [will] have better equipment to work with," Dimopoulos said.

And to the excitement of those disappointed with current late-night dining options, the owner of the new eatery said they plan to feature longer hours, staying open until 3 a.m. on weekends.

"We definitely want to cater to the late-night crowd," Dimopoulos said.
