In a game that they dominated from first play, Penn amassed its highest point total in 56 years on the way to beating lowly Cornell 59-7. On the first play from scrimmage senior quarterback Mike Mitchell found junior wide receiver Dan Castles for a 60 yard touchdown pass that put the Red and Blue ahead 7-0 -- just 19 seconds into the game and the two didn't stop there. By the end of the first quarter Penn found themselves ahead 28-0 and in the midst of a blowout. Mitchell continued lighting up the Big Red secondary, going 8-for-8 for 192 yards and three touchdowns in the first quarter alone. Castles was often on the receiving end of those throws, pulling in five catches for 168 yards and two touchdowns in the first quarter. By the end of the day, both Mitchell and Castles had set new school records, for touchdown passes in a game and touchdown receptions in a game respectively.

Defensively the Red and Blue were just as dominating. Ric San Doval led the way with 12 tackles and three sacks. Playing in his last game for Penn, co-captain linebacker Steve Lhotak also had seven tackles and two sacks and forced a fumble. Cornerback Pat McManus contributed two interceptions, helping the Red and Blue to force a total of six Big Red turnovers.
