The Penn football team (9-0, 7-0 Ivy) defeated Harvard (6-3, 3-3) in Boston, 32-24, to clinch its second-straight outright Ivy League title. Of course, the Quakers, who have made a habit of allowing near-comebacks this season, did not make it easy, even though they held a 29-7 lead in the fourth quarter. Harvard moved the ball to the Penn 6-yard line but would advance no closer as time ran out on the Crimson comeback. Penn quarterback Mike Mitchell completed 21-of-35 passes for 271 yards and led touchdown drives on three of the Quakers' first four possessions. Harvard's quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick was sensational in the fourth quarter. After missing time in the third with an injury, he came back and led two touchdown drives in the fourth, running in a two-point conversion himself with just over two minutes left to bring Harvard within 32-24. The Crimson stopped the Quakers, who threw an incomplete pass on third down with under a minute remaining and Harvard out of timeouts. Fitzpatrick and the Crimson offense started the final drive on their own 23 with 44 seconds to play. Three quick completions left the ball at Penn's 17 with seven seconds to go and Harvard with a chance at the end zone. However, Fitzpatrick's next pass was caught in the flat and run down to the six, where linebacker Steve Lhotak ended the game with a tackle. Penn, ranked No. 8 in the nation, has now won 15 consecutive games.
