CHEERS
•To the University, for signing Aramark to a long-term contract. The company deserves the opportunity to continue reviving Penn's beleaguered Dining Services.
•To the University, for amending its anti-discrimination policy to include LGBT students, faculty and staff.
•To the University, for bringing Ben & Jerry's to campus, a major addition to the 40th Street real estate corridor.
•To the University, for opening Levine Hall, the new computer science building. May it be a sign of a continued emphasis on giving the School of Engineering and Applied Science the best and most modern facilities.
•To the School of Arts and Sciences, for securing an anonymous gift to refurbish the dilapidated Music Building. We hope it is the first step down a long road of renovations for neglected SAS buildings.
•To Richard Beeman and Kathleen Hall Jamieson on their long tenures in the College of Arts and Sciences and the Annenberg School for Communication, respectively. We wish them all the best in their new endeavors and thank them for their years of service to the Penn community.
•To the men's basketball team, for winning a second-consecutive Ivy League championship by sweeping the competition.
JEERS
•To the University, for raising tuition yet again. Tuition has now increased by an absurd $10,000 in less than a decade.
•To the University, for passing a policy that keeps study abroad grades out of a student's GPA. Penn must find another way to hold students accountable.
•To the Penn Police Department, for making conflicting and confusing statements about the investigation and search for David Dantzler-Wolfe.
•To Penn's student government leaders, for being out of touch with their constituents according to a Nominations and Elections Committee report. We hope new leadership will learn from the mistakes of their predecessors.
•To Penn's Greek system, for blemishing its name once again with four houses convicted of various policy violations.
•To Commerce Bank, for not having the security in place to prevent being robbed twice in one week.
•To the Social Planning and Events Committee, for canceling the Penn Relays concert. It is a shame that this tradition was abandoned after 50 Cent pulled out of the concert.
•To the Council of Ivy League Presidents, for seriously discussing major cutbacks in Ivy League sports. We urge them to reconsider their positions when the council reconvenes in June.
