Nearly 200 people, including current governor of Pennsylvanian Ed Rendell, roared their approval last night when the Penn men's basketball team received word of their seeding on CBS's selection show Sunday night. The Quakers (22-5, 14-0 Ivy League) received an 11 seed, and will face No. 6 seeded Oklahoma State (21-9) Friday at the Fleetcenter Boston. Times have yet to be announced. Penn is in the East bracket, which has Oklahoma as the top seed. The No. 11 seed was a slightly of a pleasant surprise for Penn, as many expected the Quakers to get a 12 or 13 seed. Penn probably was viewed favorably by the selection committee due to its winning streak -- the Quakers have won 15 in a row -- and because the Quakers were one of only three teams in the nation to go undefeated in conference. The crowd at the Dunning coaches center held its collective breath before each 11, 12 or 13 seed was announced. Several cheers went up when Penn was not matched against defending champion Maryland, which received a No. 4 seed. Tickets will be made available for Penn season ticket holders who participated in the line to receive season tickets.
