Snow cancels Penn athletic events The snow and its impending threat was troublesome for the Penn athletics schedule this weekend, forcing two teams to cancel their weekend events. The Penn men's lacrosse team was scheduled to play a scrimmage against Towson Saturday at Franklin Field, but the game was postponed to yesterday. However, due to the snow, the game never happened. The Penn gymnastics team was scheduled to travel to Towson, Md., for the Towson Invitational, but Towson officials canceled the meet Saturday because of concerns about the storm, which hit the Maryland area even more heavily than the Delaware Valley region. Despite swirling snow outside, both the men's and women's tennis teams got in their matches against Old Dominion yesterday at the Levy Tennis Pavilion. Those teams that had left on Thursday or Friday competed as planned this weekend. The women's squash team won its first match of the Howe Cup against Dartmouth Friday, 5-4, but lost to defending national-champion Trinity the following day. The men's and women's fencing teams both competed in the Junior Olympics as planned. -- Zachary Silver Penn to host Ivy Gymnastics champs The Palestra will host the 27th annual Ivy League gymnastics championships on March 2 at 1 p.m. for the first time since 1999. Cornell enters the meet as the defending champions of the four-team league, while Penn held championships from 1997-2000. The Quakers are 7-4 thus far this season, eclipsing last year's record of 3-4. -- Z.S.
