The Penn men's basketball team fell to 3-3 with a 74-71 overtime loss at Providence Dec. 30. Andrew Toole scored 22 for the Quakers, who trailed by 13 points at halftime before forcing a tie at 64 at the end of regulation. The Friars led throughout the first half, and went up 29-18 following a 9-0 run with four minutes remaining before halftime. The Friars led 37-24 at the break. Providence pushed their lead to as many as 16, 44-28, before Penn went on a furious comeback. Guards David Klatsky and Jeff Schiffner hit back to back threes with eleven minutes remianing to make the score 51-47, and Toole added another four minutes later to give the Quakers a 54-52 lead. The three capped a 26-8 Penn run. The lead swung back and forth for the remainder of regulation, with Ugonna Onyekwe hitting a layup with 35 seconds to play to tie the game at 64. Toole scored 14 points in the second half. Despite opening a 71-65 lead in overtime, the Quakers were held scoreless over the last 2:41 as the Friars scored the final nine points to close out the win. Schiffner and Onyekwe each missed three pointes in the closing seconds. Onyekwe and fellow senior forward Koko Archibong finished with a total of just 19 points on 8-25 shooting. Penn returns to action Jan. 4 at Colorado.
