M. Soccer honored by All-Star team
The Penn men's soccer team's season was cut bitterly short by UConn in the second round of the NCAA College Cup last Wednesday, but the Quakers are still being honored for their terrific season.
Four members of the most successful Penn team in a quarter-century and its head coach were named to the Philadelphia Soccer Seven All-Star team yesterday.
Junior goalie Matt Haefner, who was the Ivy League Player of the Year this past season, was placed on the All-Star list for the second straight season.
Freshman midfielder John Rhodes was named Freshman of the Year. Rhodes was tied for second on the team with eight points. This marked the first time a Penn player received the award in its 10-year history.
Penn's other two leading scorers were honored. Sophomore forwards Stephen Kroculick and David Maier finished the season with eight and 11 points respectively. Each had four goals for the Quakers.
For the second straight year, Penn coach Rudy Fuller was given the Philadelphia Soccer Seven Bill Harris Coach of the Year award.
The Quakers' four bids were tied for tops in the city. LaSalle also placed four players on the list.
