After getting blown out of the Ivy League championship game by Penn last Saturday, Yale rebounded with an upset win over Rutgers Thursday night in the first-round of the National Invitational tournament.
Edwin Draughan led the Elis with 15 points in a 67-65 squeaker over the favored Scarlet Knights. Yale (21-10) took the lead midway through the second half and never trailed again.
Rutgers (18-12) was considered a favorite after a surprising season in the Big East Conference, but ended its campaign with a rare home loss. The Scarlet Knights had won their last seven straight games at the Rutgers Athletic Center.
The Elis next play Tennessee Tech (26-6) at home in New Haven on Tuesday night.
