The Penn men's squash team has experienced mixed results recently.
Last Thursday night, the Quakers struggled against Princeton, losing, 9-0. Penn then rebounded over the weekend to handily defeat both Penn State and Franklin and Marshall.
Princeton is currently the No. 4 team in the country, while the Quakers stand at No. 10.
Penn freshman No. 1 Richard Repetto lost his second consecutive match of the season dropping a defeat to the Tigers' Will Evans. A player on the rise, Evans recently took over the No. 1 position at Princeton from his teammate and defending national Champion David Yik.
Against Evans, Repetto struggled, eventually falling, 3-1, making it his second consecutive loss after starting the season with eight straight victories.
"Evans got out to a fast start," Repetto said. "He would retrieve every ball, and I made a bunch of unforced errors.
"I need to get my fitness up so I have more confidence going for those long points."
Other highlights of the Princeton match included Penn sophomore Daniel Rottenberg's match at the No. 7 position. Rottenberg lost a hard fought battle in five games.
The loss to Princeton dropped the Quakers' record to 4-7 on the season.
But Penn had no time to sulk after losing to Princeton. Two days later the Quakers had to take on Penn State and No. 14 Franklin and Marshall at the Ringe Squash Courts.
These two matches offered Penn a great opportunity to get back on track.
And the Quakers did.
Despite, fielding a young and inexperienced line-up against the Nittany Lions, the Quakers still easily defeated Penn State, 9-0.
Later that afternoon Penn squared off against the Diplomats of Franklin and Marshall.
Spurred to victory by Repetto and senior Roberto Kriete, the Quakers knocked off the Diplomats, 6-3.
While Repetto bounced back to gain his ninth win of the season, Kriete won a four-game thriller at the No. 3 position.
"We didn't come out with much intensity against Franklin and Marshall," Repetto said. "But we were still able to pull it out. F&M; was a match we thought we should win, and we did."
Penn was able to secure victory by winning at the No. 5 spot and the seven through nine positions on the ladder.
"Our depth has been one of our major strengths this year," Repetto said. "And once again on Saturday it was a key factor in our win over F&M.;"
With victories over Penn State and Franklin and Marshall, the Quakers upped their record to 6-7 on the season.
Penn now has a full week to prepare for its up the Northeast coast next weekend.
The Quakers will trek to Boston, Mass. to take on Harvard on Saturday before moving onto Hanover, N.H., to matchup with Dartmouth on Sunday.
