The Penn gymnastics team is satisfied with its performance at Towson, but is still hoping to raise their level of achievement for the upcoming Ivy Classic competition.
The Quakers finished fourth at the Towson Invitational this weekend with a season-high team score of 188.175.
George Washington placed first with 195.025, while host Towson took second with 193.875. Yale scored 190 to finish third, and Temple pulled in behind the Quakers for last place with 185.925.
Beating the Owls was especially satisfying for the Quakers. At the competition last week, Temple handed the Red and Blue a loss in their home gym.
"We knew we were capable of it," Penn freshman Collen McGue said of the win over Temple. "It was good to prove to ourselves and to them that we could come out on top."
Penn entered competition on Sunday focusing on its desire to win. That was evident in many of the Quakers' performances.
McGue registered career-high scores in all three of her events.
The rookie scored 9.625 on the uneven bars to place 15th. On the beam, she received a personal best 9.4 that was good enough for 13th place. She went on to land a 9.575 on the floor for her third career-best score on the day.
Sophomore Christy Green, a consistent competitor in the all-around, placed seventh at the meet with a solid 37.6. She also threw a 9.725 on the bars to lead the Quakers in the event.
Penn freshman Leah Moon offered a career-high of her own with a 9.55 on the bars. She took 16th in that event and added a 10th place in the beam with a 9.525.
Penn continued to utilize the vaulting talents of freshman Laura Bouchelle. The first-year competitor landed a 9.65 to finish ninth.
Senior co-captain Lauren Hittner contributed a 9.55 on the beam to take ninth for the Red and Blue.
The Quakers are now prepping for the Ivy Classic next weekend at Brown, which determines the Ancient Eight's best squad.
"We were very excited with our results this weekend," McGue said. "It was a good confidence booster for next week. We're ready to take them on at the Ivy Classics.
"It's been a hard season for all of us, but overall we're hopeful. We just have to go out there and do what we know we can."
