Everyone is looking for something. Everyone has something to offer. To help match community resources with needs, we have established this new classified section. There is something for everyone. Take a look and take action.

Help Wanted

STUDENT GROUPS, CLUBS, INDIVIDUALS, anyone, earn the pleasure and satisfaction of contributing to society. Only a 10-minute walk from campus. FREE sense of accomplishment and self-worth to be gained from working in local schools that need your support.

FINANCIAL ANYALYST NEEDED. Are you a Wharton grad? Have you taken any accounting classes? Do you think you could figure out how to outfit a school gym and art room or a classroom of 35 students for only $50.00 per year? We need your help. Any creative suggestions will do.

ARE YOU TIRED OF HANGING AROUND TWENTY-SOMETHINGS all of the time? Opportunities to work with children and teens in the community abound. Be a friend. Be a mentor. Be a pal. Get involved.

Services

DO YOU KNOW HOW TO READ? Many neighbors would like to learn. Always looking for energetic, dedicated students willing to make a commitment and change lives. Afternoon, evening and weekend hours available. All ages. Start today.

TECHNOLOGY-SAVVY ELECTRICIANS needed to figure out a way to adapt old public school classrooms into computer labs. Some have computers. Some have operating systems. Most spaces lack capacity to support a network. Need your expertise.

Wanted

BATHROOMS. School in need of working facilities. Stall doors, toilet paper, soap, paper towels among desired amenities. Paint preferred. Minimalist exposed concrete gives an unattractive feel. Interested in negotiating at least monthly cleaning.

DONATE BOOKS. Local school libraries have very few books, magazines or reference materials. Published during students' lifetime a plus, but not necessary. Cultural significance preferred. No Dick and Jane, please.

THAT 2001 COMPUTER ALREADY OBSOLETE? Well don't cyberjunk it yet. Its better than most in local middle school. Donations welcome. Operating systems preferred.

BASKETBALLS wanted for middle school intramurals and physical education classes. School gyms insufficiently equipped to run classes. Soccer balls and volleyballs don't bounce, as well.

Instruction

DO YOU LIKE SPORTS? ART? MUSIC? Anything? Neighborhood school in desperate need of people with specialized interests and skills to teach classes. Cannot promise space, consistent schedule or support from staff. Would like commitment at least until end of the school year.

Lost & Found

WOULD LIKE TO FIND long lost playground. Disappeared from Drew Elementary School. Date unknown and long forgotten. Children left with no positive outlet for energy on the old asphalt schoolyard. Few alternatives available to contact sports and violence. Any clues as to play equipment whereabouts welcome.

LOST: Teachers from under-resourced public schools. May have fled to better-funded suburban schools with better support systems, mentoring programs and working relationships with school administration. May have been downsized due to funding cuts. Please call with any information.

Personals

10-year-old -- I live and breathe basketball. At night, I like to hang out at the arcade. Not so much of an academic, but I have a lot of life experience. Looking for a teacher willing to meet me where I am and go from there. Honesty, loyalty and understanding are all I ask. Tired of people leaving in the middle of things. Looking for a real commitment.

7-year-old -- Seems like everyone I know is always leaving. Would like someone to stay and show me they care. I am full of energy, like to play games, especially outdoors. Looking for someone who loves adventure and wants to really go places! If you have a youthful attitude and wants to stay young for a long time, you might be the one.

11-year-old -- Love music and singing and writing lyrics. Hoping to find someone who will help me pursue my dreams of becoming a singer. I have lots of heavy responsibilities in life and would like to find someone who understands where I am coming from and wants to help meet my needs.

5-year-old -- Making stuff is fun. I like to make things with my hands most of all. I like snacks. I like my teacher because she has a pretty smile who is always nice to me. And she lets me make projects and look for bugs under rocks and pick them up. I like to pick flowers. I don't like when I have to go home in the afternoon, and nobody is home. I get lonely. Come play with me.
