I was hoping the first line of this review could be "13 Ghosts had me quivering in my seat with fear." Unfortunately, that would require the film to be scary. Which it isn't. At all. Billed as this year's Halloween horrorfest, you'll find more gore at the sushi counter in Freshgrocer. Centering around a family being trapped in an inherited house and escaping its 13 ghosts, the film's plot and dialogue are loose. Perhaps as the Scream generation, we've been spoiled because now we actually expect sharp dialogue and a few twists in the plot, none of which 13 Ghosts provides in any way. What the movie does have is inventive deaths: bodies get squashed, snapped and sliced. And, um, that would be the extent of it. Save yourself $8 and settle down to Buffy. At least none of the actors look as though they're embarrassed to be in that.
