BREAKING NEWS:
In light of recent attacks on the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., as well as unconfirmed reports of an explosion outside the State Department in Washington, Georgia State President Carl V. Patton has announced Georgia State University is temporarily shutting down.
"*****BREAKING NEWS*****Georgia State University is closing immediately so Georgia State employees and students can attend to family and personal matters. Please check this website for updates. Current as of 11:40 AM, September 11, 2001," read a statement posted in Georgia State's Web site just after the closing.
Patton also released the following statement via e-mail:
"Georgia State University is closing immediately so Georgia State employees and students can attend to family and personal matters. Please check the university web site http://www.gsu.edu for information concerning re-opening.Carl V. PattonPresident"
There has been no word yet as to when the university will reopen, though sources within the university hint that the school will return to normal operation within the next day.
