ÿÿÿÿÿÿW. Squash head coach vacancy still unfilled after one monthÿ

The search to replace former Penn women's squash coach Demer Holleran continues.

The announcement of Holleran's resignation took place nearly three months ago, and her resignation has been effective since June 30.

"The search is progressing a little more slowly than we had hoped, but it is moving along thoroughly and effectively," Associate Director of Athletics Mary DiStanislao said. "We have interviewed candidates and we have a lead candidate. We hope to have this resolved quickly."

DiStanislao declined to comment on the identity of the lead candidate.

Football picked by 16 media members to defend Ivy titleÿ

Fans of the Penn football team should be unsuccessfully rocking the goal posts once again this fall.

In a preseason poll of 16 members of the media covering the Ivy League, the Quakers were picked to win their 12th Ivy League title in 2001.

Penn received 11 first-place votes and 122 out of a possible 128 points. Coming in second with 111 points was Harvard, which secured the other five first-place votes.

Brown, Cornell and Yale took the next three spots with 86, 77 and 66 points, respectively. Princeton took sixth with 54 points and Dartmouth finished with 33 points. Picked to finish last was Columbia, which managed only 27 points.

Charge are a win away from clinching third place in WUSAÿ

In the inaugural season of the Women's United Soccer Association, the Philadelphia Charge are a win away from clinching one of the two remaining playoff spots.

The other two teams in the hunt are the New York Power and the San Diego Spirit.

The Charge are in the best position of the three, as they have two games remaining on their schedule and are clinging to a one-point lead over the Power and a four-point lead over the Spirit.

With wins being worth three points and ties being worth one point, Philadelphia can secure at least third place in the league with a win in either of its two remaining games against San Diego or Boston.

The Charge will take their first shot at making the playoffs tonight against the Spirit at Villanova Stadium at 7 p.m. They will get another chance on Sunday in the final game of the regular season when they take on the Breakers.

The two semifinal games will be played on August 18, and the winners will play for the championship the following weekend at Foxboro Stadium. All playoff games will be televised on TNT.
