Wrestling invited to prestigious National Duals meet
For the fourth time in six years, the Penn wrestling team has been invited to compete in the Cliff Keen National Duals. The meet will take place on January 19-20, 2002 at Ohio State. Six of the top-seven teams at NCAAs this year will compete, including No. 1 Minnesota, No. 2 Iowa, No. 3 Oklahoma State, No. 4 Oklahoma, No. 6 Iowa State and No. 7 Michigan. In all, 16 teams will wrestle at the meet, which consists of a single-elimination tournament and a consolation bracket. In 1997, Penn was the first Ivy school ever invited to compete at the National Duals. The Quakers last competed in the meet in 2000. They won their first match that year over West Virginia but lost to Oklahoma State and Arizona State. -- Jason BodnarFootball lands new assistant coach
Former Stony Brook assistant Tony Thompson was named Penn's new defensive ends coach yesterday. Thompson replaces Lewis Acquarulo, who left Penn last month to serve as defensive coordinator at Rochester. Thompson served as Stony Brook's outside linebacker coach for three seasons before taking over as the Seahawks' defensive line and special teams coach last year. -- J.
