After two days and 54 holes of competition, the Penn men's golf team finished second at the Ivy League Championships -- nine shots behind Princeton. Penn posted a three-round total of 910, while Princeton shot 901. The Quakers performed well individually, as senior co-captain Kyle Moran and sophomores Chad Perman and Endel Liias finished with All-Ivy honors. Two players from Princeton -- junior James Miliam and senior Peter McWhorter -- finished tied for first with the Elis' Louis Aurelio with 220 points, but Aurelia beat the dueling Tigers in a playoff round to claim the top individual spot. Perman led the Quakers into the second spot by firing an impressive six-over-par 222. His performance was good enough for fourth place overall. In his last Ivy experience, Moran shot a 12-over par 228, which placed him fifth overall and marked the fourth straight year he garnered All-Ivy honors. Liias posted a 230, which gave him seventh place. Mike Russell and Peyton Wallace shot three-round totals of 232 and 239, respectively, for the Quakers. "We didn't win, and it was a bummer," Liias said. "Driving home we realized that we must wait another year." The Quakers were especially disappointed because of the extra strength and conditioning work they put in during the off-season. Many members of the squad were working out with a trainer. "It's frustrating to see hard work not pay off in the end," Liias said, "but it pushes you to work harder. I definitely take something positive from this." According to Liias, his individual accolade seems diminished not only because the team finished behind Princeton, but also because the field played poorly on the whole. Next weekend, the Quakers will try to vent some of their frustration and focus on playing well at the Penn State Invitational, which is the final event of the Quakers' season.
