Incoming Executive Editor Kent Malmros will lead the 115th Board of Managers and Editors. All good things must come to an end. And so it is with the tenure of The Daily Pennsylvanian's 114th Board of Managers and Editors. For the past two semesters, these 26 students have foregone sleep and sun to ensure that the newspaper hit the newsstands each morning. When they pass the torch tomorrow evening at the DP's annual inaugural banquet, they will look back on what proved to be an exciting year, both for the University and for the DP itself. During their year at the helm, the newspaper's editors and managers covered the opening of Sansom Common, shootings at the Palestra after the Philadelphia Public League high school boys basketball championship, the University's $300 million plan to renovate the campus' dormitories and dining halls, the tearing down of the Franklin Field goalposts following the football team's Ivy title-clinching win, and the search for and naming of Neurology and Neuroscience Chairperson Robert Barchi as Penn's permanent provost. Besides overseeing content overhauls of 34th Street magazine and DP Interactive, they garnered the DP's second consecutive Pacemaker Award as the nation's top collegiate daily. More accolades followed as the Princeton Review named the DP America's most-read college newspaper and the Columbia Scholastic Press Association awarded it the prestigious Gold Crown. And the newspaper recorded the highest profits in its history. Starting with next Monday's issue, the 115th Board will build on this tradition of quality reporting, positioning future boards to excel in the midst of changing technologies. Incoming Executive Editor Kent Malmros, a College junior who has served as the DP's sports editor for the past year, wants to lead the newspaper in several new directions. Malmros -- who will serve as president and chief executive officer of The Daily Pennsylvanian Inc. -- hopes to shift the focus of coverage toward the issues that directly affect members of the University community. Specifically, he plans to work with groups at Penn and in West Philadelphia to change the perception of the media's role in people's lives. Flanking Malmros will be incoming Managing Editor Ian Rosenblum and incoming Business Manager Brian Garvey. The triumvirate will lead the 27-member board into the newspaper's 115th year of publication. Rosenblum served first as copy editor and later as editorial page editor during the past year. The Urban Studies major and native of Silver Spring, Md., will be responsible for the newspaper's day-to-day editorial operations and the content that appears in the DP and its related publications. Garvey, who hails from Dublin, Ireland, was the newspaper's sales manager during the past semester, breathing new life and success into the department. Majoring in Psychology, the College junior will act as vice president of the corporation and run the newspaper's business board.
